Kapurthala Police Crack Down on Arms Supply Network
In a significant breakthrough, the Kapurthala police have successfully dismantled an arms supply module, leading to the arrest of two individuals, including a juvenile, and the recovery of five country-made pistols. The operation, conducted on Sunday, marks a crucial step in curbing illegal weapon trafficking in the region.
Details of the Arrests and Recoveries
The arrested accused have been identified as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Mehrajwala village in Jalandhar, and a 17-year-old boy. According to police reports, the arrests were made based on reliable intelligence inputs. Initially, police teams apprehended Ajay Kumar and recovered one pistol from his possession. Further investigation led to the arrest of his juvenile accomplice, resulting in the seizure of four additional pistols.
Investigation Reveals Foreign Links and Supply Chain
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations have uncovered that the arrested individuals were acting on the directions of foreign-based handlers residing in the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). These handlers allegedly orchestrated the procurement and distribution of illegal weapons.
The investigation further revealed that the accused sourced the country-made pistols from Madhya Pradesh, indicating a cross-state supply chain. The weapons were intended to be supplied to criminal gangs operating in the region, primarily for use in firing incidents and extortion activities.
Police Statements and Regional Impact
Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora emphasized the importance of this operation in disrupting criminal networks. He noted that the timely action by police teams prevented the potential misuse of these weapons, which could have escalated violence and lawlessness in the area.
The bust highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle arms smuggling and organized crime. Authorities are continuing their probe to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in this module, including the foreign handlers, to ensure comprehensive dismantling of the network.
This case underscores the challenges posed by international connections in local criminal activities and the need for coordinated efforts between state and central agencies to combat such threats effectively.
