In a shocking incident from Kanpur, a YouTuber has been taken into custody while a police sub-inspector is currently evading arrest. They are accused of the abduction and gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in the city's Sachendi area, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
Police Shake-Up and Alleged Cover-Up Attempt
Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal announced major disciplinary actions following the crime. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Dinesh Chandra Tripathi was removed from his post, while Sachendi Station House Officer (SHO) Vikram Singh was suspended. The suspensions were ordered due to alleged serious lapses and the distortion of facts in the initial investigation.
The victim's family has leveled grave accusations against the local police, claiming a deliberate attempt to bury the case. They stated that when they first approached the police and mentioned the involvement of a policeman, they were turned away. The girl's brother further alleged that the police confiscated her mobile phone and did not allow her to return home until her official statement was recorded in court.
Grim Details of the Assault Emerge
According to the police account, the victim, a Class 7 dropout, was forcibly taken around 10 pm on Monday. The abduction was carried out in a Mahindra Scorpio SUV. She was driven to a secluded location near a railway track, where she was subjected to a brutal sexual assault that lasted for nearly two hours.
After the ordeal, the perpetrators abandoned the girl outside her house. She was found in an unconscious state. Based on her harrowing statement, an FIR was registered naming Sub-Inspector Amit Kumar Maurya and YouTuber Shivbaran Yadav. While Yadav has been arrested, four special police teams have been formed to track down and apprehend the absconding SI.
Investigations have revealed that the SUV used in the crime is registered in the name of Maurya and has now been seized. It was also found that Maurya was present in Sachendi at the time of the incident, despite his official posting being at the Bithoor Police Station.
Transparency Promised Amid Political Outrage
The incident has triggered significant political backlash. Former CPI(M) MP Subhashini Ali met with Commissioner Lal to condemn what she described as "widespread impunity" in crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh.
Commissioner Raghubir Lal assured that the investigation is now being conducted with complete transparency. "Strict action will be taken against all guilty parties," he told reporters. The probe has been handed over to Additional DCP (West) Kapil Dev Singh for a thorough examination.
SHO Vikram Singh faced suspension primarily for two critical failures: not invoking the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the initial stages and for allegedly misrepresenting facts in the official case records. Deenanath Mishra has been appointed as the new in-charge of the Sachendi Police Station.
