In a brazen incident in Kanpur, two thieves broke into a locked house, assaulted the homeowner upon his return, and made off with goods valued at over Rs 5 lakh. The Panki police have managed to apprehend one of the accused, while a search operation is underway to nab his accomplice who escaped with the loot.
Homeowner Confronts Intruders, Faces Assault
The incident occurred in the Swaraj Nagar area of Panki. The victim, Dileep Pal, who works at a private institution, had gone to a neighbourhood programme with his family on December 27. When the family returned home around 11 pm, they were met with an unsettling sight: their main gate was open.
Upon entering, they discovered two youths inside their house. When Dileep Pal protested, the intruders did not hesitate to threaten him. "The thieves threatened to kill him," as per the victim's statement. As the thieves were leaving with stolen goods, a physical altercation broke out when Pal tried to stop them.
One Arrested, Another Escapes with Valuables
During the scuffle, the locals and the family managed to catch one of the youths. He was subsequently handed over to the police. However, his accomplice seized the opportunity to flee, carrying a significant haul of valuables.
The stolen items included:
- Two gold chains
- Two pairs of earrings
- A mangalsutra
- One pair of silver bangles
- Three gold rings
- Three lockets
- Cash amounting to Rs 50,000
The total estimated value of the stolen goods exceeds Rs 5 lakh.
Police Action and Investigation Details
A formal report of the house break-in was filed on Tuesday. Acting swiftly, the Panki police arrested the captured accused, identified as Manoj Arora, and sent him to jail the very same day.
Manoj Bhadauria, the in-charge of Panki police station, provided crucial details about the fugitive. He revealed that the second accused had been released from jail merely 15 days ago. The police are actively searching for him based on the description and information provided by the arrested accused and the victim.
The case highlights concerns about recurring crime, especially involving recently released offenders, and has put the local police's investigative efficiency into focus as they work to recover the stolen property and apprehend the remaining suspect.
