The arrests were made in connection with a heinous murder registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Govindnagar police station.
The operation was conducted under the direct guidance of the Police Commissioner of Kanpur Nagar and the supervision of the Station House Officer of Govind Nagar. Utilizing a network of informers and dedicated surveillance teams, the police acted promptly to prevent further incidents in the area.
Gruesome Discovery and Investigation
The case came to light on Monday when the Govindnagar police received distressing information about a naked male body, which was being mauled by stray dogs, at the Nirala Nagar Railway Ground. The victim was soon identified as Rahul Awasthi, with the identification aided by a motorcycle found near the scene. Following standard procedures and the completion of the panchnama, the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Acting on a formal complaint filed by the deceased's father, an FIR was registered. Initially, the complaint named Rahul's friend, Kamta, as the accused. However, through an extensive search and interrogation process, the police zeroed in on Kamal Sharma.
Confession and Recovery of Evidence
During interrogation, Kamal Sharma confessed to the crime. He revealed that on Sunday night, he, along with his nephew Mohit Sharma, had taken Rahul Awasthi to the railway ground. There, they stripped him, beat him brutally with a belt, and ultimately murdered him by smashing his head with a brick. The accused also admitted to hiding the murder weapon.
Following his confession and tip-off, the police successfully recovered the blood-stained brick used as the weapon and the clothes worn by the accused during the crime, which were also stained with blood. When questioned about the motive, the duo stated that Rahul would often humiliate them, which led to the fatal attack. Based on the concrete evidence gathered, the police have added Sections 238 and 61(2) of the BNS to the case.
The police have demonstrated remarkable promptness by solving this brutal murder within 12 hours of the discovery of the body. Further legal proceedings in the case are now underway.
