Kanpur Police Arrests Main Accused in Liquor Salesman's Murder During Encounter
In a significant development, police in Kanpur have arrested the primary suspect in the murder of a liquor salesman following an encounter in the Bidhnu police station area late on Sunday night. The accused, identified as Chhotu alias Chand alias Nisar, son of Razzak from Fatehpur district, sustained injuries during the encounter and was subsequently admitted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Details of the Encounter and Arrest
The operation unfolded after Bidhnu station in-charge Tej Bahadur Singh received a crucial tip-off, prompting police to initiate checks on the Bidhnu-Sachendi road. During this surveillance, the encounter occurred, leading to Chhotu's arrest. He was initially taken to Bidhnu Community Health Centre (CHC) but was later referred to a hospital in Kanpur due to the severity of his injuries.
While under medical care, Chhotu revealed the names of his two accomplices involved in the crime. This breakthrough is expected to aid police in their ongoing investigation and efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Background of the Murder Case
The murder stems from an incident a few days ago when Uday Singh, a liquor salesman, refused to serve alcohol to some men at a shop near Bhawanipur village in the Bidhnu police station area. In response, the assailants assaulted Uday, who was then admitted to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries, escalating the case to a murder investigation.
Ghatampur Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Krishnakant Yadav provided insights into the case, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South, Deependra Nath Chaudhary, disclosed that Chhotu has six prior cases registered against him, highlighting his criminal history.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Efforts
Following his arrest and medical treatment, Chhotu will be produced in court and is expected to be sent to jail as per legal protocols. Police have intensified raids to locate and arrest the other two accused named by Chhotu, aiming to bring all perpetrators to justice.
The swift action by Kanpur police in this encounter underscores their commitment to tackling violent crimes and ensuring public safety in the region.
