Kanpur Auto Driver Dies After Consuming Poison Outside In-Laws' House

A tragic incident unfolded in Kanpur this week when a young man died after consuming a poisonous substance at his in-laws' doorstep. The shocking event has left the local community in Naubasta reeling and prompted a police investigation.

Wife Allegedly Shuts Door Instead of Helping

Twenty-year-old Vikram, an auto driver and only son of mason Jai Kumar, visited his wife Riya's parental home in Ramadevi on Wednesday. According to the family's account, Vikram went there to convince his wife to return home with him.

When Riya refused to let him inside the house, Vikram reportedly consumed a poisonous substance right in front of her. Instead of rushing to his aid or calling for help, his wife allegedly shut the door, leaving him outside in a deteriorating condition.

Desperate Journey Home Before Death

Despite his worsening state, Vikram managed to drive his auto back to his home in Anand Vihar, Naubasta. Family members immediately noticed his critical condition and rushed him to medical facilities.

He was first taken to Kanshiram Hospital, then transferred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival at the second hospital.

Father Files Police Complaint Against Daughter-in-Law

Jai Kumar, Vikram's father, has filed a formal complaint at Chakeri police station. He holds his daughter-in-law Riya responsible for his son's death and has provided details about their troubled marriage.

The father revealed that this was not Vikram's first suicide attempt. He stated that his son had tried to take his own life four or five times previously, suggesting ongoing distress in the marriage.

Troubled Marriage History Emerges

According to Jai Kumar's account, Vikram and Riya had a love marriage two-and-a-half years ago. Problems began surfacing just one month after their wedding.

The father made several serious allegations:

  • Riya began harassing family members shortly after marriage
  • The couple moved to rented accommodation in Damodar Nagar, but conflicts continued
  • Riya allegedly blocked Jai Kumar's number on Vikram's phone, preventing father-son communication
  • She prevented Vikram from attending his sister's wedding on November 22
  • On November 23, Riya reportedly left home with jewelry and cash for her parents' house and did not return

Police Investigation Underway

Chakeri police station in-charge Ajay Prakash Mishra confirmed that authorities registered a zero FIR based on the father's complaint on Thursday. The case has been transferred to Naubasta police station for further investigation.

"The investigation will be conducted from there," Mishra stated, indicating that local police will handle the case moving forward.

The incident has raised serious questions about domestic relationships and mental health support systems in the community. As police continue their investigation, family members mourn the loss of a young life cut short under tragic circumstances.
