Kanpur Court Hands Life Sentence to Woman and Lover for Husband's Murder

A court in Kanpur delivered a significant verdict on Friday. It awarded life imprisonment to a woman and her paramour. They were convicted for poisoning the woman's husband to death in March 2024.

Daughter's Revelation Exposed the Crime

The couple's young daughter played a crucial role in uncovering the truth. She told police officers a shocking story. Her mother fed her father a suspicious white powder at a hotel in Lucknow. After consuming it, he fell ill and was hospitalized.

The girl also stated her mother later took her to her grandfather's house in Kanpur. This information became vital evidence for the investigation.

Family Background and Marital Discord

The case was filed by the father of the deceased man. He lives in Kidwainagar, Kanpur. In his official complaint, he described his son's life. His only son, aged thirty-five, got married in 2017. The couple had two children together.

The father claimed the husband and wife often fought. Their relationship was marked by frequent quarrels.

A Trip and a Disappearance

According to the prosecution's account, the family traveled in early March 2024. The couple and their children visited the woman's parents' house in Faizabad. They returned to Kanpur on March 12, 2024. However, the husband did not come back with them.

When the father-in-law asked about his son, the woman gave an explanation. She said their car had broken down. Her husband stayed behind in Barabanki to get the vehicle repaired.

Family members tried repeatedly to contact the missing man. All their attempts failed. They could not reach him.

Further Disappearances and Police Action

Later, the woman left the family home with both children. She claimed her son was sick and needed to see a doctor. When she did not return, the worried grandfather took action. He filed a First Information Report at the Naubasta police station. He reported the disappearance of his daughter-in-law and grandchildren.

Investigation Uncovers a Gruesome Plot

Police conducted a thorough investigation. They discovered a horrifying sequence of events. The woman and her lover allegedly poisoned the victim in a Lucknow hotel. After he died, they cremated his body in Lucknow itself. They did not inform any family members about his death or the cremation.

Court's Observations on the Crime

The court examined all the evidence carefully. It observed that the woman and her paramour murdered the husband in a pre-planned manner. Their actions showed clear intent. They hurriedly cremated the body to destroy evidence.

This conduct made them liable for the maximum punishment prescribed for murder under the law. The court found no mitigating circumstances to reduce their sentence.

Legal Proceedings and Arrests

The Additional District Government Counsel provided details of the legal process. The accused individuals were arrested on April 17, 2024. Police filed a charge sheet in the case on June 8, 2024. The court proceedings followed, leading to Friday's life sentence verdict.

This case highlights how familial testimony and diligent police work can bring criminals to justice. The court's firm stance sends a strong message against such premeditated crimes.
