Kanpur cop traced to Prayagraj in minor's gang rape case

In a significant development in a shocking case from Kanpur, the police have successfully traced the location of a sub-inspector accused of abducting and gang-raping a 14-year-old girl. The accused officer, identified as sub-inspector Amit Maurya, was tracked down to Prayagraj on Friday, as confirmed by the Kanpur Police.

Chilling Details of the Crime Emerge

The horrific incident occurred in the Sachendi area of Kanpur. According to the victim's complaint, she was pulled into a vehicle by two men around 10 pm on Monday night when she stepped out of her house. One of the assailants was in police uniform. The perpetrators then took the terrified girl to a deserted railway track in Sachendi, where they sexually assaulted her for two hours. After the brutal attack, the accused dumped the unconscious girl outside her home and fled the scene.

Police Response and Investigation Intensifies

The family's ordeal continued even after the crime. The victim's brother stated that he called the police emergency number 112 at midnight, but received no response. When he went to the local police station to file a complaint, he was allegedly turned away because one of the accused was a policeman. It was only after the family met with senior officers that a formal case was registered against two unidentified persons.

The investigation gained momentum on Wednesday and Thursday, when the Crime Branch conducted raids at several locations in Lucknow, following leads on the fleeing sub-inspector. On Wednesday, ADCP West Kapil Dev Singh recorded the victim's detailed statement. In her account, she named YouTuber Shivbaran Yadav and sub-inspector Amit Maurya as her attackers. Based on this crucial testimony, stringent charges under the POCSO Act and sections for gang rape were added to the FIR. Shivbaran Yadav was arrested on Wednesday itself.

Manhunt Nears Conclusion as Teams Deployed

With the primary accused cop's location now traced to Prayagraj, the police have launched a concerted effort to apprehend him. Two police teams have been dispatched to Prayagraj and Varanasi to execute the arrest. Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal assured the public, stating, "The search for the accused sub-inspector is on. He will be arrested soon. The Crime Branch and other teams are continuously conducting raids."

The case has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting grave concerns about the abuse of power and the safety of minors. The swift identification of the accused and the ongoing raids indicate intense pressure on the police force to deliver justice in this heinous crime.
