Kanpur Boy Drowns in Ganga; Friends Flee and Conceal Tragedy
In a heartbreaking incident in Kanpur, a 12-year-old boy lost his life after drowning in the Ganga River on Wednesday afternoon. The tragedy occurred in the Manohar Nagar area under the jurisdiction of the Jajmau police station. According to police reports, the boy was accompanied by two friends at the time of the accident, who immediately fled the scene and failed to inform the youth's family about the drowning.
Delayed Discovery and Family's Anguish
When the boy did not return home, his mother grew concerned and went to inquire with his friends. Initially, the friends provided no information about the incident. It was only on Thursday, after being questioned more strictly by the family, that one of the companions revealed the truth about the drowning. This delay in disclosure added to the family's distress and complicated the recovery efforts.
The boy's aunt shared that he had left home in the afternoon under the pretext of delivering clothes to a friend. His mother expressed deep frustration and blamed the friends for hiding the fact, stating that their silence prolonged the agony and hindered immediate rescue operations.
Police Recovery and Investigation
Upon receiving the information, Jajmau police swiftly reached the spot along the Ganga. With the assistance of professional divers, they conducted an intensive search operation. After approximately three hours of effort, the police successfully recovered the boy's body from the river. The body was subsequently sent for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather further details for the ongoing investigation.
Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning and the actions of the friends involved. The incident has raised concerns about safety measures near water bodies and the importance of prompt reporting in such emergencies.
