Kanpur Police Nab Trio in 24 Hours for E-Auto Kidnapping & Robbery
Kanpur: 3 arrested for abducting, robbing passenger in e-auto

In a swift and coordinated operation, the Kanpur Police have successfully cracked a case of abduction and robbery involving a passenger in an electric auto-rickshaw. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the city, was resolved within a remarkable 24-hour window, leading to the arrest of three individuals.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests

The Railbazar police station, in a joint operation that involved the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and a dedicated surveillance unit, apprehended three men for a brazen crime. The accused were identified as Rinku Yadav, Amit Kumar Paswan, and Nihal Kumar Prajapati. Their arrest came after they allegedly abducted and assaulted a passenger at knifepoint, making off with his valuable electronic gadgets.

Chilling Details of the Nighttime Crime

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Satyajeet Gupta, the sequence of events began on the night of December 18. The victim had initially boarded a bus from the Ramadevi crossing, bound for Varanasi. Later, he hired an e-auto from Tatmill to return to Ramadevi. Unbeknownst to him, the driver, Rinku Yadav, and his two associates were already in the vehicle, setting the stage for the crime.

Instead of taking the passenger to his intended destination, the trio deliberately diverted the e-auto into a secluded jungle area beside the COD bridge. There, they assaulted the victim while brandishing a knife and forcibly snatched his electronic devices. The stolen items included a mobile phone, a laptop, a tablet, and a printer.

Recovery of Stolen Goods and Case Resolution

Shaken but determined, the victim filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Railbazar police station on the same day. Leveraging technical surveillance and ground intelligence, the police teams sprang into action. Their investigation led them to the accused, who were tracked down and arrested within a day of the crime being reported.

In a significant breakthrough, investigators managed to recover all the stolen property from the possession of the arrested men. The swift resolution of the case highlights the effectiveness of inter-departmental coordination in tackling street crimes in Kanpur.

The police have commended the vigilance of their teams and reiterated their commitment to ensuring citizen safety, especially for those using public transport during late hours.
