Jodhpur Police Uncover Major Spurious Ghee Operation in Warehouse Raid
In a significant enforcement action against food adulteration, the Commissioner Special Team (CST) of Jodhpur conducted a targeted raid on Saturday, leading to the seizure of a massive 7,500 litres of spurious ghee. The operation, based on actionable intelligence, targeted a ghee supplier's warehouse, uncovering a sophisticated setup for producing and packaging counterfeit edible products.
Warehouse Raid Yields Evidence of Widespread Adulteration
Acting swiftly on a tip-off, police officials arrived at the location and executed the raid with precision. From the premises, authorities recovered substantial quantities of palm oil, numerous tins containing various types of ghee, and a large stock of printed wrappers belonging to several well-known and trusted brands. This discovery points to a systematic operation aimed at deceiving consumers by passing off adulterated goods as genuine branded products.
The unit, identified as Harshit Enterprises, was operating from the Anganwa Nandpuri Yojana area under the jurisdiction of the Mandore police station. During the raid, CST in-charge and Sub-Inspector Mehraj Tanwar provided detailed insights into the scale of the seizure. "Our team confiscated 350 tins of ghee representing different brands and 150 tins of mixed palm oil, in addition to approximately 7,500 litres of spurious ghee from this facility," Tanwar stated, highlighting the extensive nature of the illegal activity.
Suspect Detained as Investigation Broadens
In connection with the raid, police detained Naveen Kumar, a 38-year-old individual, from the spot. Authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation to trace the distribution network of the spurious ghee. Key focuses of the probe include determining the exact locations where the adulterated product was supplied and uncovering the duration over which this illicit trade has been operational.
The case underscores ongoing concerns about food safety and regulatory compliance in the region. Such raids are critical in curbing malpractices that pose serious health risks to consumers. The police have assured that further actions will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, potentially leading to more arrests and stricter enforcement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This incident serves as a stark reminder for consumers to remain vigilant and for authorities to intensify monitoring of food supply chains to ensure public health and safety.
