A 21-year-old man has been arrested from his home in a village in Khunti district on charges of raping a woman from the same village last Friday and threatening her with dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone, police said on Monday.
Sub-divisional police officer Varun Rajak said, “The accused has been nabbed and forwarded to jail on Sunday. Further investigation is under way. All possible help would be provided to the survivor.”
According to the officer, the woman’s husband, who works in another state, had borrowed Rs 1,500 from the accused. Last Friday, the accused called the woman to his home under the pretext that his mother wanted to talk to her. When the woman arrived, the accused committed the crime. The mother of the accused was not at home at the time. A case was registered under the BNS on Saturday.
