Security forces in Jammu initiated a large-scale search operation on Sunday following a critical intelligence input about suspected terrorist activity near the international border. The alert was triggered after agencies intercepted a satellite communication signal in the sensitive Rajpura area of the Kanachak sector.
Satellite Signal Triggers Swift Security Response
According to officials, intelligence units successfully traced a communication to a Thuraya satellite device around 3 pm on Sunday. The GPS location of the device was promptly tracked, leading to immediate action. A joint team comprising the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Operations Group (SOG), the Border Security Force (BSF), and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) swiftly cordoned off the identified area and launched an intensive search operation.
Officials stated that while nothing suspicious had been found during the initial phase of the operation, further combing of the area was actively underway to rule out any threat or presence of hostile elements.
Village Defence Groups Directed to Stay on High Alert
In a parallel security development on the same day, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Poonch district convened a crucial meeting with members of the Village Defence Groups (VDGs). The meeting, held with volunteers from the border village of Jhullas, focused on reinforcing village-level security protocols.
The SSP directed the VDG volunteers to remain alert, motivated, and fully committed to protecting their villages. He emphasized the importance of strictly adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) laid down for such groups.
Key Instructions to Village Volunteers
The volunteers received specific instructions to enhance border village security. They were told to:
- Maintain constant vigilance in their respective areas.
- Assess any suspicious situations promptly and accurately.
- Share actionable intelligence inputs in a timely manner with the nearest police and security establishments.
This protocol aims to prevent any potential loss of life and ensure the swift neutralization of threats. Approximately 150 VDG members participated in this important security briefing.
The twin initiatives—the proactive search operation based on technical intelligence and the community engagement with VDGs—highlight the multi-layered security approach being employed in the Jammu region to maintain stability and counter threats effectively.
