Jalna Police Conduct Raid, Confiscate 21 Illegal Swords from Garment Store
In a significant enforcement action, the Sadar Bazar police station in Jalna has seized 21 steel swords with a total estimated value of Rs26,000 from a garment store located in the Mahavir Chowk area. The operation led to the arrest of the shop owner, identified as 43-year-old Manish Dilip Nihalani, who resides at Shiv Apartment in Ajintha Nagar.
Police Raid Based on Credible Intelligence
According to official reports, the raid was conducted on Thursday following credible information received from an informant. Sub-inspector Sachin Vasudev Sanap, who heads the detection branch (DB squad) at Sadar Bazar police station, filed the complaint and led the operation. After informing senior officers and making a necessary station diary entry, Sanap, along with a team of officers and two panch witnesses, arrived at the shop in a private vehicle.
Upon reaching the location, police found Nihalani present at the counter. A thorough search was carried out on the third floor of the shop in the presence of the panchas, resulting in the recovery of the 21 swords. When questioned about possessing a valid license for the weapons, Nihalani allegedly admitted to having no authorisation.
Details of the Seized Weapons and Legal Action
The seized swords included 13 large steel swords, each measuring 79cm and valued at Rs1,500, and eight smaller swords measuring 53cm, each valued at Rs800. Superintendent of police Ajaykumar Bansal stated that Nihalani is currently under interrogation to determine the timeline, source, and intended purpose behind the procurement and storage of these weapons inside his garment shop.
An offence has been formally registered under section 4/25 of the Arms Act and section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. This legal action underscores the authorities' commitment to curbing the illegal possession and trade of weapons in the region.
