Jaipur Police Apprehends Four Women in Coordinated Gold Theft Operation
In a significant breakthrough, the Jaipur Police arrested four members of an inter-state gang on Thursday for allegedly stealing 90 grams of gold jewellery from a passenger travelling in an auto-rickshaw near the Chandpole area. The swift action by law enforcement has brought to light a sophisticated theft ring targeting unsuspecting commuters in the city.
Identified Accused and Their Modus Operandi
Deputy Commissioner of Police, North, Karan Sharma, identified the arrested individuals as Anjana alias Pankhudi, Alpa Ben Solanki, Sharda alias Pooja, and Kangya Arjun. According to police reports, these four women are habitual offenders with a history of involvement in similar thefts across Jaipur, indicating a pattern of criminal activity that has plagued the region.
The incident came to light when the complainant, Ramniwas Soni, filed a report at the Kotwali police station last month. Soni stated that he was carrying gold jewellery, specifically one necklace and two ear tops weighing approximately 90 grams, which he had collected from his nephew, Vishnu Soni, in Kardhani. He boarded an auto-rickshaw from Doodh Mandi around 4 pm, heading towards Chandpole.
Detailed Account of the Theft
During the journey, a short distance into the ride, four to five women dressed in sarees and salwar suits entered the vehicle. Police investigations reveal that this was a deliberate tactic by the gang to create confusion and distraction. When the auto dropped Soni near the Hanuman temple at Chandpole, he checked his bag and discovered that the jewellery, kept in a separate pouch, was missing.
Officers explained that the gang operated with precise coordination. Members would board autos or e-rickshaws, engage passengers in casual conversation, and then create a diversion. During this distraction, they would cover bags with a chunni or cloth, quietly open the chains, and remove valuables without the victim's immediate notice. After successfully executing the theft, they would instruct the driver to stop the vehicle and disperse quickly to avoid detection.
Ongoing Investigation and Recovery Efforts
Further interrogation of the arrested individuals is currently underway as police work to trace other members of the gang and recover additional stolen items. The investigation aims to dismantle the entire network and prevent future incidents, highlighting the proactive measures taken by the Jaipur Police to curb such crimes.
This arrest underscores the importance of vigilance among passengers and the effectiveness of coordinated police efforts in tackling organized theft rings in urban areas.
