Jaipur Police Arrest Two Suspects, Seize Illegal Firearms in Bassi Crackdown

In a significant operation aimed at curbing arms smuggling, Jaipur police arrested two suspects on Friday night after intercepting a Scorpio vehicle in the Bassi area. The police recovered illegal firearms and cartridges during the crackdown, which targeted suspected arms smuggling activities in the city.

Details of the Arrest and Recovery

The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar, also known as Sukha, aged 21, a resident of Dadanpura in Dholpur, and Lokesh Kumar, alias Ayan, aged 27, from Akhaipura in Daulatpura. Both individuals were arrested under the provisions of the Arms Act following the police operation.

Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal stated that the Crime Branch had received specific intelligence indicating that armed criminals were en route to Bassi to supply country-made pistols and cartridges. Acting on this tip-off, police intercepted the vehicle and conducted a thorough search.

During the search, authorities recovered two country-made pistols, ten live cartridges, and two empty cartridges. The illegal weapons, along with the Scorpio vehicle used by the suspects, were seized on the spot as part of the evidence collection process.

Wider Surveillance Drive Against Arms Smuggling

Officials revealed that the city police had been actively monitoring arms smugglers for several days prior to this operation. The police were tracking individuals involved in ferrying illegal weapons from one area to another within the city and its outskirts.

The operation in Bassi was a key component of this broader surveillance initiative, which aims to disrupt the circulation of country-made firearms in Jaipur. This crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and reduce gun-related crimes in the region.

Interrogation and Future Prospects

Both accused individuals have been taken into police custody and are currently undergoing interrogation. The primary focus of the investigation is to ascertain the source of the illegal weapons and identify their intended recipients.

An official involved in the case indicated that further arrests and recoveries are likely as the investigation progresses. "We are working to dismantle the entire network involved in arms smuggling," the official stated, highlighting the police's commitment to eradicating such illegal activities.

This operation underscores the proactive measures taken by Jaipur police to combat arms smuggling and ensure law and order in the city. The successful interception and arrest demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-based policing in tackling organized crime.
