ITBP Constable Dies by Suicide at Mussoorie Training Centre
In a tragic incident, a 38-year-old constable of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) from Dausa, Rajasthan, allegedly died by suicide at the force's centre in Mussoorie on Tuesday morning. The Dehradun police confirmed the event and have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Police Investigation Details and Preliminary Findings
Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajai Singh stated that upon receiving the alert, police teams promptly reached the location to commence their inquiry. "Preliminary investigations indicate that Chetram Meena hanged himself using a nylon rope that was tied to the window of his room," SSP Singh explained. The authorities followed standard protocol by documenting the scene with videography and photography teams before carefully bringing down the body from the noose.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Once the examination is completed, it will be handed over to his family members for the final rites. Family members traveled to Mussoorie later on Tuesday to claim the body and participate in the last rituals.
Background and Previous Suicide Attempt
SSP Singh further disclosed that Constable Chetram Meena had been transferred from Pithoragarh to Mussoorie approximately two months prior to the incident. No suicide note was recovered from the scene, leaving investigators to rely on other evidence and testimonies. However, ITBP officials informed the police that Meena had previously attempted suicide during his posting in Pithoragarh in July of last year.
This revelation adds a layer of complexity to the case, suggesting potential underlying issues that may have persisted over time. The police are now delving deeper into his personal and professional history to understand the factors that led to this tragic outcome. The investigation will also examine the support systems and mental health resources available to personnel within the force.
The incident has cast a somber shadow over the ITBP community, highlighting the need for enhanced mental health awareness and intervention strategies among security forces. As the probe continues, authorities are committed to uncovering the full truth and ensuring that such tragedies are prevented in the future.
