IRS Officer's Daughter Found Dead in South Delhi Home; Former Domestic Worker Arrested
A shocking crime has rocked the capital city, as a 22-year-old woman, the daughter of an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was allegedly raped and murdered inside her residence in south Delhi. The incident, which occurred in the Amar Colony area, has led to the arrest of a former domestic worker who police suspect is responsible for this heinous act.
Discovery of the Crime and Initial Investigation
The victim was discovered deceased within her home on Wednesday morning, prompting immediate police response. Preliminary investigations suggest she was sexually assaulted and subsequently strangled, with authorities noting the possible use of a mobile phone charging wire as the murder weapon. The brutality of the crime has sent shockwaves through the community and raised serious concerns about domestic security.
Arrest of the Accused and Connection to Previous Crimes
Police swiftly identified and apprehended the primary suspect, Rahul Meena, from a hotel in Dwarka where he had allegedly been hiding following the incident. Joint Commissioner of Police (Southern Range) Vijay Kumar revealed that Meena had previously been employed at the victim's residence but was dismissed due to repeated complaints about his habit of borrowing money from household staff and neighbors.
"He was removed from his position after numerous complaints regarding his constant requests for loans. Our investigation uncovered that he frequently played online games and would borrow money from other domestic workers in the area," Kumar stated during a press briefing.
Financial Motive and Additional Charges
Authorities suspect that robbery may have been a secondary motive in the crime. Kumar indicated that approximately 2 to 2.5 lakh rupees were potentially stolen from the premises, with police making certain recoveries related to the theft. The investigation has expanded to include charges of robbery alongside the primary allegations of rape and murder.
In a disturbing development, police have linked Meena to another alleged crime in Rajasthan that occurred just one day prior to the Delhi incident. "After committing this offense, he changed his trousers and shoes. Regarding his motive, we discovered he perpetrated a similar crime yesterday in Alwar. When our team reached Rajgarh in Alwar to apprehend him, we found he had committed another offense there late yesterday evening," Kumar explained.
Cross-State Investigation and Police Coordination
The case has triggered a coordinated investigation between Delhi Police and authorities in Rajasthan. Superintendent of Police Sudheer Choudhary confirmed that Alwar police have registered a separate complaint against the same accused and launched a parallel investigation.
"We received information from Delhi Police about this serious incident where a young girl was raped and murdered. The accused is a resident of Rajgarh, and we have registered another complaint against him. Given the gravity of the situation, we have formed a special team and, based on inputs from Delhi Police, have detained six individuals for questioning," Choudhary stated.
He further elaborated on the investigative efforts: "Our DSP team, Special Team, and Cyber Team are working tirelessly to apprehend the accused. We are thoroughly investigating the incident reported in Rajgarh and have recorded the victim's statement in detail. It has emerged that the victim and accused knew each other, and both the victim's husband and the accused were reportedly addicted to gambling."
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Police have invoked sections pertaining to rape, murder, and robbery in the Delhi case, while a separate rape case has been registered against the accused in Alwar. Investigators are currently working to establish the complete sequence of events and trace the suspect's movements across state lines.
The interrogation of the accused continues as authorities seek to determine whether there is a pattern to his alleged crimes. "He may have such a mindset; this will be further confirmed during the ongoing interrogation," Kumar noted regarding the suspect's potential criminal tendencies.
Both police departments have emphasized their commitment to sharing information and coordinating efforts to ensure justice is served in this tragic case that has highlighted vulnerabilities in domestic security arrangements and raised questions about background checks for household staff.
