IPS Officer Vartika Katiyar Faces Fresh Controversy Over Alleged Threat Video

IPS officer Vartika Katiyar, who was transferred from her position as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) following the violent clash in Ballari on January 1, has found herself embroiled in a new controversy. A video has surfaced that purportedly shows her threatening a lower-level official even after her transfer had been effected.

The Controversial Video and Its Contents

The video, which has been widely circulated on social media platforms, allegedly captures Katiyar speaking to Ballari zonal administrator Basavaraj. In the recording, she is heard warning him not to hand over documents to the newly posted officer who has taken over her responsibilities.

According to the video's audio, Katiyar states: "The case of my transfer is being heard by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). In the meantime, if you give the files to anyone, you will also be made a defendant in CAT."

Basavaraj is reported to have recorded this conversation himself. Following this phone call, he wrote a formal letter to Katiyar, accusing her of obstructing him from discharging his official duties. In his communication, he explicitly requested: "Therefore, do not call me or send me letters or verbal instructions." This purported letter has also been shared extensively across social media.

Background: The Ballari Clash and Transfer

The controversy stems from a violent incident that occurred in Ballari on January 1. A clash broke out between supporters of Congress MLA Bharath Reddy and BJP legislator G Janardhan Reddy over the erection of banners. Tragically, one person lost their life during this altercation.

In the aftermath of this incident, Katiyar was transferred from her DIG position on January 7. Subsequently, she approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) to challenge her transfer order. This legal case is currently still being heard by the tribunal.

Current Allegations and Official Response

Meanwhile, serious allegations have emerged that Katiyar is exerting pressure on various officials to prevent them from handing over files that were under her charge to other officers. These allegations have added fuel to the ongoing controversy surrounding her conduct.

When attempts were made to contact Basavaraj for his version of events, he did not respond to phone calls or text messages. The lack of official commentary from involved parties has only intensified public speculation about the matter.

The situation remains fluid as both the video controversy and the CAT proceedings continue to unfold. This development marks another chapter in the ongoing scrutiny of administrative conduct and transfer protocols within law enforcement agencies.
