Indore Police Crack Down on Vehicle Theft Gang Operating from Rajgarh
In a significant breakthrough, the Sanyogitaganj police in Indore have successfully busted a notorious gang of vehicle lifters that was operating out of Rajgarh and specifically targeting the city's crowded weekly markets. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of dozens of stolen motorcycles, dealing a major blow to organized theft activities in the region.
Arrests and Identities of the Accused
The three arrested persons have been identified as Anwar alias Annu Shah, along with his associates Vishal Khare and Jeevan Verma, all residents of Rajgarh district. Police investigations revealed that this trio had been systematically carrying out thefts in the bustling haat market located in the Navlakha area of Indore.
Modus Operandi of the Theft Ring
According to police officials, the gang employed a cunning strategy to execute their crimes. They would frequent the crowded weekly markets, seamlessly blend into the large gatherings of people, and then target parked two-wheelers. By stealing the vehicles and making a quick escape, they left minimal scope for immediate detection, allowing them to operate with relative impunity for an extended period.
How the Police Made the Breakthrough
The breakthrough in the case came after police received a specific tip-off regarding repeated suspicious movements at one of the haat markets. Acting on this information, officers conducted a late-night check and detained one of the suspects from the market. During sustained and intensive questioning, the detained individual disclosed the names and specific roles of his accomplices, leading to the swift arrest of the two other gang members from separate locations.
Recovery of Stolen Vehicles and Valuation
Investigators further uncovered that the gang would transport the stolen vehicles to Rajgarh, where they were concealed in various villages before being sold at throwaway prices. Following the arrests, police teams conducted extensive searches across multiple villages in Rajgarh, resulting in the recovery of 36 stolen motorcycles. The collective value of these recovered vehicles is estimated to be around Rs 25 lakh, highlighting the substantial financial impact of the thefts.
Criminal History of the Main Accused
Police records indicate that the main accused, Anwar alias Annu Shah, is a habitual offender with a long criminal history. A staggering 46 criminal cases have been registered against him across various districts, including Indore and Bhopal.
