Indore Police Bust Gang, Recover Rs 68.5 Lakh Jewellery

In a significant crackdown, the Tejaji Nagar police in Indore have successfully dismantled an interstate gang of burglars, leading to the arrest of three young men and the recovery of valuables worth tens of lakhs.

Daring Operation in Hilly Terrain Leads to Arrests

Acting on a crucial tip-off about criminal activity in the rugged terrain between Alirajpur and Dhar districts, a specialized police team launched a covert operation. The intelligence led them to the hideouts of the accused, resulting in the capture of three individuals identified as Akash from Alirajpur, and Sheru and Pankesh, both residents of Dhar. All the arrested are around 20 years of age.

From the accused, the police confiscated a substantial haul. This included 450 grams of gold jewellery and over 2 kilograms of silver jewellery, with the total estimated value pegged at a staggering Rs 68.50 lakh. Additionally, law enforcement recovered a country-made pistol and eight live cartridges, highlighting the dangerous nature of the gang.

Modus Operandi: Daytime Surveys, Nighttime Raids

During interrogation, the arrested youths revealed their systematic method of operation. The gang would first conduct reconnaissance during the day, identifying houses that appeared empty or unoccupied. Under the cover of night, they would then strike, using tools like screwdrivers and cutters to break locks and gain entry within minutes.

An official release stated that the accused showed a willingness to use their weapons to evade capture, making their arrest a priority for public safety. Their criminal activities were not confined to theft alone, as the backgrounds of the main accused reveal.

Criminal Histories of the Accused Unveiled

Police investigations uncovered the extensive criminal records of the gang members. Akash has seven serious cases registered against him, including charges of robbery, dacoity, and attempt to murder. In a particularly audacious act in 2022, he attacked a patrolling police team in the Badgonda police station area and looted a government-issued rifle. He had been absconding since that incident.

Another arrested member, Sheru Vasude, is also a known criminal with six cases to his name and has previously served jail time from the Tejaji Nagar police station. The arrests have thus neutralized a significant threat posed by repeat offenders operating across district lines.

The successful operation by the Tejaji Nagar police underscores the effectiveness of actionable intelligence and swift action. It has prevented further burglaries and brought individuals with violent criminal histories back into the custody of the law, providing a sense of relief to residents in the region.
