In a significant breakthrough, the Heera Nagar police in Indore have apprehended a serial thief responsible for a spate of thefts targeting crucial mobile network infrastructure. The arrest led to the recovery of stolen 5G equipment valued at approximately Rs 9.30 lakh and the two-wheeler used to commit the crimes.
Night Patrol Leads to Suspicious Detention
The arrest unfolded during a routine night patrol on Friday near the MR-10 Road in Indore. Police personnel spotted a youth behaving suspiciously. Upon noticing the police team, the individual attempted to hide and flee but was swiftly surrounded and detained.
During initial questioning, the accused tried to mislead the officers. However, he eventually broke down and confessed to being involved in multiple incidents of stealing equipment from mobile towers across the city.
Confession Reveals Theft Spree Targeting 5G Infrastructure
The accused, identified as Rahul (28), son of Girdharilal, provided detailed disclosures about his activities. He admitted to carrying out thefts on Wednesday and Thursday from mobile towers located in the Sukhliya, Scheme No. 136, Abhinandan Nagar, and Bapat areas of Indore.
His specific target was advanced 5G network equipment. The stolen items included critical components such as:
- BASE BAND UNITS
- G NODE B RAN PROCESSOR UNITS
- 5G BBU cards
Rahul confessed to stealing four units belonging to an erection company, which are essential for operating 5G signal receivers, thereby directly impacting network connectivity.
Massive Recovery Based on Accused's Disclosure
Acting on the information provided by Rahul, the police team conducted a search near MR-10 Road. They successfully recovered all the stolen equipment, which was carefully concealed in two plastic bags hidden in bushes.
In a further development, the police also seized the white scooter used to commute to and from the crime scenes. The vehicle was found hidden near the MR-10 bridge. The combined value of the recovered scooter and the high-tech 5G equipment is estimated at Rs 9.30 lakh.
Police Probe Expands to Uncover Further Crimes
The accused, Rahul, is a resident of Scheme No. 74, Vijay Nagar, Indore, with his permanent address in Piparwani village under Tendukheda police station of Narsinghpur district. He has been booked as a habitual offender.
After being brought to the Heera Nagar police station, he is undergoing further interrogation. The police are questioning him intensively to ascertain his potential involvement in other similar theft cases in the region. Officials indicated that more disclosures are likely as the investigation progresses.
