In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Crime Branch of Indore Police successfully apprehended a man in possession of a substantial quantity of brown sugar. The operation, conducted on Monday, led to the seizure of narcotics valued at approximately Rs 1.40 lakh in the international market.
Surveillance Operation Leads to Arrest
The arrest was the result of vigilant police work during routine surveillance near the Lokhande bridge area. Officers noticed an individual behaving suspiciously while seated on a black two-wheeler beside a drain. His nervous demeanor upon being approached prompted the police team to surround him for detailed questioning.
The suspect was identified as Bhupendra Digwa, a resident of Aerodrome in Indore. A subsequent search of his person and vehicle yielded the illicit substance. Police recovered 13.82 grams of brown sugar from his possession during the operation.
Seizure and Interrogation Details
Along with the narcotics, authorities confiscated a two-wheeler without a registration number plate and a mobile phone from the spot. The total estimated value of all seized items, including the drugs, vehicle, and phone, stands at Rs 2.30 lakh.
During interrogation, Digwa revealed his modus operandi to the police. He confessed to purchasing the contraband at lower rates and then selling it within Indore city to earn a higher profit. The accused, who works at a vehicle repair shop, has studied only up to Class 8.
Legal Action and Case Registration
A formal case has been registered against Bhupendra Digwa at the Crime Branch police station. The charges have been framed under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by Indore Police to combat the drug trade and curb the supply of illegal substances in the city.
The successful operation near Lokhande bridge highlights the importance of proactive policing and surveillance in identifying and apprehending individuals involved in drug-related crimes. The police have not indicated if this arrest is linked to a larger network, but investigations are likely ongoing.
