Indore Crime Branch Arrests Suspect with Mephedrone Worth Rs 6 Lakh
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the crime branch in Indore arrested a resident of Sadar Bazaar and seized a substantial quantity of mephedrone (MD) on Friday. The operation led to the confiscation of 57.73 grams of the illegal substance, with the total value of seized items, including a mobile phone, estimated at around Rs 6 lakh.
Arrest and Seizure Details
The suspect, identified as Mohd Nooruddin, was apprehended near Pathar Godam Road, close to a veterinary hospital, while he was carrying a backpack. Crime branch officials, noticing his nervous behavior upon spotting the police team, detained him for questioning. A search of his bag revealed the mephedrone, leading to his immediate arrest.
Police investigations revealed that Nooruddin, who works in repair-related jobs and has studied up to Class 8, admitted during preliminary questioning to being involved in drug trafficking. He confessed to procuring the mephedrone at lower rates and supplying it to addicts in Indore at higher prices to make quick profits.
Legal Action and Charges
A case has been registered at the crime branch police station under sections 8 and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Indore police to combat drug-related crimes in the city.
The seizure of such a significant quantity of mephedrone underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing the drug trade. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover any potential links or networks involved in this case.
