Imam Allegedly Sets Worshipper Ablaze in Rajasthan Mosque, Victim Critical
A shocking incident of violence unfolded at a mosque in Rajasthan's Tonk district on Thursday, where a 24-year-old imam allegedly poured petrol on a 48-year-old worshipper and set him ablaze. The victim, identified as Hakeem Pinjara, suffered severe burns and is currently undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital in Jaipur, with his condition reported as critical.
Details of the Horrific Attack
The attack occurred at a mosque in Kalmanda village, located in the Bhilwara area of Tonk district. According to police reports, the incident took place before namaz when Pinjara went to the bathroom in the mosque. The accused imam, Abid Abdul Rasheed, a resident of Bilara in Jodhpur district who was living at the mosque, allegedly doused the victim with petrol and set him on fire.
Hearing the victim's screams, other worshippers and locals rushed to the spot and immediately called the police. Officers from Diggi police station, including SHO Gopal Chaudhary, responded quickly and transported Hakeem to Malpura hospital for initial care. Due to the severity of his burns, he was later referred to SMS Hospital in Jaipur for specialized treatment.
Police Investigation and Manhunt
Tonk SP Rajesh Kumar Meena stated that initial investigations indicate the victim and the accused had an altercation the previous night, which may have led to the violent attack. Police have registered a formal case and formed special teams to trace the fleeing imam.
The investigation teams are actively scanning CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas to gather evidence and track the accused's movements. SP Meena confirmed that the motorcycle used by Rasheed to flee has been identified, and authorities are confident of arresting him soon.

SP Meena emphasized that the full details will only be known after the accused is apprehended and the victim's statement is recorded.
