Hyderabad Hit-and-Run: Gruesome Details Emerge as Victim's Legs Severed in High-Speed Crash
Disturbing new details have surfaced regarding Sunday's horrific hit-and-run incident on Hyderabad's Durgam Cheruvu flyover, with police confirming that the 35-year-old victim suffered catastrophic injuries that resulted in both legs being completely severed during the violent collision.
Driver Remains at Large as Police Scramble for Leads
Investigators from Madhapur police station revealed on Monday that the driver responsible for the fatal crash continues to evade authorities, with police still unable to establish the identity of the accused. The vehicle involved has been identified as a red Mercedes C230 bearing West Bengal license plate WB06B7003.
The luxury car is registered to Quantum Minerals and Metals Pvt Ltd, according to police officials who have contacted the company for assistance in determining who was operating the vehicle at the time of the tragic incident.
Sequence of Events: A Tragic Night Unfolds
Based on available CCTV footage, police have reconstructed the sequence of events leading to the fatal collision. Victim Shyam Raj and his wife had traveled to the Durgam Cheruvu flyover from Jubilee Hills in the early hours of Sunday morning, parking their motorcycle along the railing before sitting on the walkway barrier.
"At approximately 3 AM, Shyam Raj dismounted from the railing," explained investigators. "At that exact moment, the Mercedes came hurtling down the flyover at tremendous speed, striking Shyam Raj before crashing into the railing further along the roadway."
The impact proved devastatingly severe, completely severing both of Shyam Raj's legs. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital and receiving emergency medical care, the victim succumbed to his injuries at 4 PM on Sunday after fighting for his life for more than twelve hours.
Police are currently investigating whether Shyam Raj had stepped onto the roadway to photograph his wife at the time of the collision.
Witness Accounts and Investigation Challenges
Officials confirmed that except for the victim and his wife, no other individuals were present on the flyover when the accident occurred. Moments after the crash, several passersby stopped at the scene and immediately alerted authorities.
Based on the extensive damage to the vehicle and the severity of the impact, police estimate the Mercedes was traveling at speeds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour when it struck the victim.
"A dedicated investigative team is working to obtain additional CCTV footage," stated police officials. "We are attempting to trace the movements of the accused both before and after the time of the crash to establish a clearer timeline of events."
Vehicle Violations Compound the Tragedy
Further investigation has revealed alarming regulatory violations associated with the Mercedes involved in the fatal collision. A search of the vehicle's license plate on the official Vahan portal showed that both the registration and fitness certificates had expired in September 2024.
Additionally, the car's road tax had been paid for only five years following its initial registration on September 23, 2009. This means the vehicle was operating illegally in Telangana according to Motor Vehicles Act provisions, as no road tax had been paid within the state.
The Vahan portal displayed no visible insurance details for the vehicle, strongly suggesting the Mercedes was likely uninsured at the time of the accident, adding another layer of legal complication to an already tragic situation.
