A shocking incident of domestic violence occurred in Dhanbad on Sunday morning when a man allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp blade while she was working in the Bhuli OP area. The woman sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH), where doctors have described her condition as critical. The accused husband is on the run.
Victim and Accused Identified
According to police, the injured woman has been identified as Mehdi Khatun, a resident of Chauthaikulhi in Jharia. Her husband, Shahzad alias Khairu, and she both worked as cooks at Al-Habibi Marriage Hall in Pandarpalla New Islampur area. Family members and local residents revealed that the husband frequently assaulted his wife.
The Attack
On Sunday morning, while Mehdi was engaged in her work, her husband suddenly attacked her with a sharp blade without any apparent provocation and then fled the scene. The attack left Mehdi with severe injuries, prompting immediate medical attention.
Police Response
Bhuli OP in-charge Vishwajit Thakur stated that the couple originally hails from Bokaro district and had been residing in Jharia for work purposes. He assured that a search operation is underway to apprehend the accused. “Search is on for the accused. He will be arrested soon,” Thakur said.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the issue of domestic violence. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Shahzad's whereabouts to come forward.
