Tragic House Fire in Narnaund Village Claims Life of Elderly Woman, Son Seriously Injured
A devastating fire broke out at a residence in Nada village, Narnaund, on Wednesday morning, resulting in the tragic death of a 65-year-old woman and leaving her son with severe burn injuries. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the dangers of household accidents.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The fire erupted around 6 am in a room of the house, catching the family off guard. According to police reports, the blaze spread with alarming speed after a can of petrol stored inside the room ignited, engulfing the entire area within minutes. This rapid escalation turned a routine morning into a scene of chaos and tragedy.
The deceased has been identified as Bimla Devi, a bedridden woman suffering from a spinal ailment. At the time of the fire, she was lying on a cot, unable to move quickly to safety. Her son, Navneet, was reportedly preparing to leave for work when the incident occurred.
Heroic Rescue Attempt and Aftermath
Navneet's 5-year-old daughter was also present in the room and raised an alarm upon seeing the flames. Hearing her cries, Navneet rushed inside to attempt a rescue. While the young child managed to move to a corner and avoid serious harm, Bimla Devi was already trapped in the intensifying blaze.
In a courageous but perilous effort, Navneet tried to pull his mother out of the fire, sustaining severe burn injuries in the process. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, quickly rushed to the spot and assisted in shifting both victims to the Civil Hospital in Jind for immediate medical attention.
Given her critical condition, Bimla Devi was referred to PGIMS Rohtak for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Her post-mortem examination is scheduled for Thursday to formally document the cause of death.
Investigation into the Cause
Family members have suggested that a short circuit might have triggered the fire, though authorities have not confirmed this. Police officials stated that an investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact cause of the blaze. This probe will examine all potential factors, including electrical faults and the storage of flammable materials like petrol.
The incident underscores the importance of fire safety measures in homes, especially in rural areas where emergency response times can be longer. It also brings attention to the risks associated with keeping hazardous substances such as petrol indoors.
As the community mourns the loss of Bimla Devi, Navneet remains hospitalized, battling his injuries. The family's ordeal serves as a somber reminder of how quickly everyday life can be upended by unforeseen disasters.
