Honeytrap Racket: Six Cops Linked, ₹1 Crore Extorted in Tirupati

The investigation into the honeytrap extortion racket in Tirupati has gained momentum following the arrest of the key accused, Rangamma Naidu, and her four accomplices. The racket, which operated for about eight months, is believed to have extorted approximately ₹1 crore by trapping over 20 unsuspecting individuals and blackmailing them.

Police Personnel Under Scrutiny

While Anantapur III Town police inspector Rajendranath Yadav and Raptadu police inspector Sri Harsha, allegedly linked to the extortion gang, were already transferred to vacancy reserve, the role of several other police personnel has also come under the radar. According to sources, six police personnel in the rank of head constable and constable have been found to have connections with the extortion gang, and they are all being sent to vacancy reserve. Anantapur rural DSP T Srinivasulu confirmed that the gang used to target influential and financially well-off individuals.

YSRCP Leader in Custody

A local YSRCP leader has been taken into custody for questioning after the investigation revealed that the gang obtained lists of potential victims from this leader. The probe also uncovered that some police personnel connived with the gang and threatened victims to withdraw complaints. Allegations have surfaced that certain police officers even mediated in support of the gang when victims refused to pay the extortion money.

The racket came to light after one of the victims filed a complaint with the police, leading to the arrests of Rangamma and her four associates. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining the extent of the conspiracy and the involvement of other individuals.
