Mumbai: The Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered a non-cognisable complaint against a home guard for allegedly assaulting a train manager following an altercation on Western Railway. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the station.
Incident Details
According to police, the train manager did not suffer any serious injuries. The GRP has informed the home guard's superiors about the incident. Train manager Chetan Malvade was on duty on train number 90889, which departed from Churchgate at 8:10 pm on April 21.
As per a complaint filed by the Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh (WRMS), one home guard boarded the train at Dadar, while three others joined at Bandra. Initially, Malvade assumed they would alight at Khar Road. However, after the train left Khar, all four home guards were standing on the footboard at the entrance of the ladies compartment, obstructing the boarding and alighting of women passengers.
Escalation and Assault
When Malvade asked them to clear the doorway in the interest of passenger safety, they allegedly began arguing. The situation escalated when the train reached Vile Parle station. One of the home guards, identified as Manoj Sawant, allegedly pulled Malvade out of the coach and assaulted him on the platform.
The GRP has initiated an inquiry and is reviewing the CCTV footage. The railway authorities have also been alerted to ensure such incidents do not recur.
