A bomb threat email sent to the Mysuru district courts early Thursday morning has been deemed a hoax by police. The message was received on the court’s official mail ID at 1:50 am, prompting immediate security checks.
Police Response and Investigation
According to a police official, the email claimed that explosives had been placed inside the court premises. Security personnel were alerted and a thorough search was conducted using sniffer dogs and bomb detection squads. No suspicious items were found, confirming the threat was false.
“The email was traced to a dummy account. We are investigating the IP address and other digital footprints to identify the sender,” the official stated. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for criminal intimidation and creating public mischief.
Impact on Court Operations
Court proceedings were temporarily disrupted as a precautionary measure. Staff and visitors were evacuated from the buildings during the search. Normal operations resumed after the all-clear was given around 4:30 am. No injuries or damage were reported.
Previous Hoax Incidents
This is not the first such incident in Karnataka. In the past year, similar hoax emails targeted courts in Bengaluru and Hubballi. Police have urged institutions to verify threats before panicking and to strengthen cybersecurity measures.
