The Himachal Pradesh High Court, in a significant ruling on Friday, dismissed an application filed by senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi in the ongoing Rajya Sabha election petition against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Harsh Mahajan. "A party cannot be compelled or dragged by the court to lead evidence in a particular manner to prove an issue for which they bear the burden."

With the dismissal of Singhvi's application, the main election petition has been scheduled for further hearing. The court has posted the case for April 20 before the additional registrar (judicial) to fix a date for recording the evidence of Mahajan's proposed witnesses.
