In a landmark achievement for its law enforcement, Haryana has reported its most aggressive year yet in the fight against narcotics. Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sumita Misra revealed on Saturday that the state registered a record 3,738 FIRs under the NDPS Act and arrested 6,801 accused in 2025 alone.
Six-Year Crackdown: A State's Relentless Pursuit
The 2025 figures represent the peak of a sustained six-year campaign. Between 2020 and 2025, Haryana authorities registered a total of 20,519 NDPS cases, leading to the arrest of 35,207 individuals. The crackdown had a wide geographical net, with arrests spanning multiple states and even crossing international borders.
The highest number of out-of-state arrests came from Uttar Pradesh (169), Punjab (147), Rajasthan (64), and Delhi (45). Individuals from Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and several northeastern states were also apprehended. On the international front, 26 Nigerians, six Nepalis, and one individual from Senegal were among those held for drug-related offences in Haryana.
Smashing Major Networks: Focus on Commercial Trafficking
A significant area of success was the dismantling of large-scale, commercial drug operations. In 2025, authorities registered 457 commercial NDPS cases and arrested 1,227 accused, marking the highest annual tally in the past six years. Over the entire period, commercial operations accounted for 2,224 FIRs and 5,824 arrests, demonstrating a targeted strategy against organized trafficking networks.
The efficiency of Haryana's anti-narcotics teams in penetrating inter-state and international rings saw a notable jump. In 2025, 586 accused were arrested in such operations, including 553 from other states and 33 foreign nationals. This was a significant increase from the 444 arrests made in similar operations in 2024, highlighting the expanding reach and effectiveness of the state's agencies.
Massive Haul: Drugs Worth Crores Seized
The financial and physical scale of the narcotics trade disrupted by Haryana is staggering. Over the six years, seizures worth hundreds of crores of rupees were made. The haul included a massive 55,701 kg of ganja, disrupting cannabis supply chains across northern India.
Poppy straw emerged as the largest single category by weight, with 89,696 kg confiscated. This was followed by 1,300 kg of charas and 229 kg of heroin. Dr. Misra particularly noted the 2025 heroin seizure of 55.84 kg, one of the highest annual quantities of this dangerous narcotic recovered by the state.
Other major recoveries over the six-year period included:
- 1,819 kg of opium
- 3,392 kg of opium plants
- 814 grams of cocaine
The authorities also kept pace with emerging trends, seizing synthetic drugs like MD, MDA, and MDMA (over 1 kg total), along with quantities of methamphetamine, LSD, and brown sugar.
This comprehensive data underscores Haryana's intensified and multi-pronged approach to curbing the narcotics menace, targeting both street-level peddling and the high-value supply chains that fuel it.
