Haryana Police Officer Dies by Suicide Outside Rohtak Police Station
In a tragic incident that has shocked the local community, a 53-year-old exempted assistant sub-inspector (EASI) posted with the Dial 112 emergency response system allegedly died by suicide outside a police station in Rohtak on Monday. The deceased, identified as Kuldeep Singh, was deployed on emergency response vehicle ERV-594 at Kalanaur police station in the district.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, Kuldeep Singh reportedly shot himself in the head using his service revolver just outside the Kalanaur police station premises. Fellow police personnel who witnessed the incident immediately rushed him to the Post Graduate Institute (PGI) in Rohtak, where doctors declared him brought dead upon arrival.
Station House Officer (SHO) Satpal Singh of Kalanaur police station stated that Kuldeep had gone for his meals shortly before the incident occurred. The officer allegedly ended his life just outside the police station premises, with police subsequently taking custody of the body and initiating a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Family Background and Demands
Kuldeep Singh was a native of Dighal village in Jhajjar district and had been residing in Kamlanagar near the Jhajjar 'chungi' (toll tax barrier) in Rohtak for approximately 15 years. He is survived by his wife and three children — two daughters and a son.
Family members have expressed shock at the incident, stating there were no apparent signs of stress or distress that could have led to such an extreme step. They have demanded a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, seeking clarity about what might have prompted this tragic action.
Kuldeep's cousin Praveen revealed that the deceased officer was one among six brothers, one of whom had already passed away. Three brothers currently reside in the Kamla Nagar area of Rohtak city, while two others live in their native village Dighal in Jhajjar district. Kuldeep's last rites will be performed in his ancestral village according to family traditions.
Police Service History
Kuldeep Singh had served at Lakhan Majra police station earlier in his career before being posted with the Dial-112 emergency response system at Kalanaur police station. The Dial 112 system is India's unified emergency response number designed to provide immediate assistance to citizens in distress.
His sudden death has raised questions about the mental health and stress management resources available to police personnel, particularly those working in high-pressure emergency response roles. The incident highlights the need for better support systems within law enforcement agencies to prevent such tragedies in the future.
As investigations continue, authorities are examining all possible angles while the police community mourns the loss of one of their own. The case has drawn attention to the psychological challenges faced by emergency responders who regularly encounter traumatic situations as part of their duty.
