Haryana Enforcement Bureau Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Mining Activities

The Haryana State Enforcement Bureau has significantly tightened its grip on illegal mining operations across the state, revealing robust enforcement actions from the previous year. According to official data, the bureau registered a staggering 1,264 cases and arrested 1,286 accused individuals during 2025 in connection with illicit extraction of soil, sand, and gravel.

Massive Raids and Vehicle Seizures Across Haryana

Enforcement teams conducted extensive raids at 6,898 locations statewide, targeting illegal mining sites. During these operations, authorities seized 2,637 vehicles on the spot, disrupting the logistical networks supporting unlawful mining activities. Ajay Singhal, Director General of Police for Haryana, disclosed these figures, emphasizing the bureau's commitment to rigorous enforcement.

Substantial Financial Penalties Imposed and Recovered

The crackdown resulted in significant financial repercussions for violators. A total penalty of Rs 19.84 crore was imposed on individuals involved in illegal mining. Out of this amount, Rs 9.57 crore has already been recovered, with ongoing efforts to reclaim the remaining balance. These penalties serve as a strong deterrent against future violations.

Vision for 2026: Technology-Driven and Accountable Enforcement

Singhal outlined the Enforcement Bureau's vision for 2026, centered on "smart, strict, and sensitive enforcement." He stated that the bureau aims to evolve into a technology-driven, result-oriented, and fully accountable unit. This transformation is designed to enable decisive action not only against illegal mining but also against power theft, illegal liquor distribution, water theft, and unlawful urban development activities.

Enhanced Data Analytics and Inter-Departmental Coordination

In the coming year, the Haryana Police plan to strengthen real-time data analytics, inter-departmental intelligence sharing, and coordinated actions across the state. Singhal emphasized that the objective extends beyond mere enforcement; it includes establishing a fear of law and respect for rules to build a safe, disciplined, and development-oriented Haryana.

Comprehensive Campaigns Against Multiple Illegal Activities

Navdeep Singh Virk, Chief of the Haryana State Enforcement Bureau, provided additional insights into the bureau's broader enforcement efforts. During 2025, campaigns were conducted against illegal activities linked to six different departments. Notably, in transport department initiatives, 18,819 vehicles were inspected, resulting in the seizure of 14,111 vehicles. Penalties exceeding Rs 57.47 crore were imposed on vehicle owners as part of these actions.

Case Disposal and Ongoing Legal Proceedings

Out of the 1,264 cases registered for illegal mining, 1,122 FIRs have already been disposed of, indicating efficient judicial processing. The remaining cases are under active investigation and legal scrutiny, ensuring that all accused face appropriate consequences under the law.

The Haryana State Enforcement Bureau's aggressive stance underscores a determined effort to curb environmental degradation and revenue loss caused by illegal mining, setting a precedent for stringent law enforcement in the region.
