Guwahati Man Arrested for Assaulting Police and Driver During Medical Exam

A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Guwahati for allegedly assaulting two constables from Chandmari police station and a driver while he was being transported for a mandatory medical examination. The incident occurred as part of an ongoing investigation into a case registered against him for assaulting his mother.

Details of the Incident and Arrest

The accused, identified as Manas Pratim Tamuli, a resident of Pub-Sarania locality in Guwahati, was being taken for the medical exam on Friday night. According to police reports, while en route to the hospital near the Guwahati Club area, Tamuli allegedly launched an attack on the occupants of the vehicle, including the two constables and the driver. This led to a new case being registered against him at Latasil police station.

On Saturday, DCP (central) Sambhavi Mishra provided further context, stating that Tamuli had previously assaulted his mother because she allowed his father to undergo pace-maker surgery without his approval. Multiple cases related to this domestic violence incident were already registered against him at Chandmari police station.

Background and Police Response

The arrest highlights a disturbing pattern of violent behavior by the accused. Police authorities have emphasized that the assault on law enforcement officers during official duty is a serious offense that will be dealt with strictly under the law. The medical examination was a procedural step in the investigation of the earlier assault case, and the incident underscores the risks faced by police personnel while performing their duties.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into both the original assault on his mother and the recent attack on the police constables and driver. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding law and order, even in challenging circumstances involving family disputes and medical procedures.
