Gurgaon Police Sub-Inspector Injured in Deliberate Dumper Truck Attack
A police sub-inspector was seriously injured in Gurgaon on Thursday night when a Haryana-registered dumper truck deliberately rammed into a patrol vehicle in the Bilaspur area. The incident occurred after the police attempted to intercept the truck following reports of a hit-and-run involving an auto rickshaw.
Chase and Deliberate Collision
Sub-Inspector Rakesh, along with SPO Hemant and Head Constable Narendra, were conducting routine night patrol duties. Near the Electricity Board office, they were alerted by two individuals on a scooter, Krishna and Anup, about a dumper truck with registration number HR38AG9961. The truck had reportedly struck an auto rickshaw near the TLC Company, injuring the rickshaw driver, before fleeing the scene.
The police team immediately pursued the dumper. At Bilaspur Chowk, the patrol car successfully intercepted the truck, which had slowed down. The officers parked their vehicle on the left side of the road to confront the suspects. Shockingly, the cleaner allegedly provoked the driver to accelerate and crash into the police car from behind at high speed.
Impact and Injuries
The force of the collision was severe, pushing the patrol car approximately 10 to 15 feet forward. Sub-Inspector Rakesh sustained multiple injuries, including trauma to the left side of his head and ear, damage to his left thumb, and injuries on the right side of his stomach. Following the attack, the dumper driver and cleaner abandoned the vehicle on the road and fled the scene, taking the keys with them to hinder any immediate pursuit.
Emergency Response and Legal Action
Police promptly alerted the control room, and an emergency response vehicle was dispatched to the location. The authorities have seized the abandoned dumper truck as evidence. The injured sub-inspector was initially taken to CHC Pataudi for primary medical attention and was later referred to Civil Hospital in Sector 10, Gurgaon, for advanced treatment due to the seriousness of his injuries.
On Friday, the Bilaspur police station registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) against both the driver and the cleaner. The charges are severe and include:
- Section 109(1): Attempt to murder
- Section 121(1): Voluntarily causing grievous hurt to a public servant
- Section 132: Using assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from duty
- Section 221: Voluntary obstruction of a public servant performing official duties
- Section 54: Abettor present when an offence is committed
- Section 324(4): Mischief
This case highlights the dangers faced by law enforcement officers while on duty and underscores the legal consequences for those who attack public servants. The investigation is ongoing as police work to apprehend the suspects who remain at large.
