In a significant crackdown on crime-funded assets, the Gurgaon Police have demolished eight illegally constructed structures and sealed one property since December 2025. The drive specifically targets properties acquired through alleged illegal means by individuals with extensive criminal records.
Major Operations Target Notorious Criminals
The latest action occurred on Monday, January 7, 2026, when authorities demolished a five-storey house belonging to a criminal named Banarsi. The illegal construction was situated on government land near Rajendra Park in Sector 105. On the same day, police also sealed a property in Sector 104 linked to gangster Sunil Dahiya, alias Tota.
According to police officials, the operations were led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (West) Abhilaksh Joshi and Rajendra Park Station House Officer Inspector Rajesh Kumar. They received crucial support from Gurgaon's nodal officer for encroachment, RS Batth. The demolitions and sealing were carried out peacefully with strict adherence to law and order protocols.
Criminal Histories of the Accused
Banarsi, a resident of Surat Nagar Phase 2, has a long criminal history. Police records show that six cases are registered against him for a range of serious offences. These include assault, creating fear amongst the public, murder, selling illegal intoxicating substances, theft, receiving stolen property, gambling, and possessing illegal weapons.
Investigations revealed that Banarsi had encroached on 50 square yards of government land to build his five-storey house and continued his illegal activities to amass property.
The other target, Sunil 'Tota' Dahiya from Dhanwapur village, faces an even more extensive criminal dossier. A staggering 34 cases are lodged against him. His charges include rioting, mischief, house trespass, robbery, dacoity, theft, attempted murder, extortion, kidnapping, criminal intimidation, assault on public servants, obstruction of public duty, and multiple instances of possessing and using illegal weapons. Police allege Tota acquired property through his criminal activities and built a house of about 300 square yards in his brother's name in Dhanwapur.
Due Process and Future Actions
A police officer involved in the operation explained the procedure, stating, "Due process is followed. The police identify the criminal and their antecedents, whilst civic and district administration officials provide notices and conduct hearings."
These actions are part of a series of similar operations initiated in December 2025 against alleged criminals in the city. The Gurgaon Police have made it clear that such drives against criminals and illegal encroachers will continue as part of their strategy to dismantle the economic infrastructure of crime networks.
