Gurgaon Police Nab Four Accused in Gold Snatching Case Targeting Senior Citizens

Gurgaon police made a significant breakthrough on Sunday by arresting four individuals who specifically preyed on elderly citizens during their morning walks. The accused, all residents of Indira Colony in Rohtak district, are drug addicts with extensive criminal records.

Modus Operandi Revealed

Police officials disclosed that the gang employed a cunning strategy to target their victims. They would approach elderly morning walkers and initiate conversations, often using topics like old-age pension schemes to gain their trust. Once the victim was engaged, other members of the group would join the discussion.

Taking advantage of the distraction, the criminals would swiftly snatch gold ornaments from the elderly person and escape on their vehicles. This method proved particularly effective against senior citizens who were less likely to resist or chase after the perpetrators.

The October 25 Incident

The arrests followed a specific incident that occurred on October 25, 2025, near Surya Vihar Road. An elderly man was on his morning walk around 6 AM when one of the accused approached him on a scooter and struck up a conversation about pension schemes.

Within moments, three other men arrived on a motorcycle and joined the discussion. Seizing the opportunity created by the distraction, the group snatched a gold bangle from the man's hand and fled the scene using both vehicles.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Following the registration of a case at Sector 09A police station, the crime branch launched a thorough investigation. A dedicated team from Sector 17 conducted sustained surveillance and analyzed technical inputs while following up on tip-offs from reliable sources.

Their efforts culminated in the arrest of all four accused from Dujana-Rohtak Road in Jhajjar. At the time of their apprehension, the criminals were traveling in a Kia Seltos car that police believe was being used to plan another criminal act.

The vehicle was immediately seized and investigation revealed it was registered in the name of the brother of another accomplice.

Criminal Backgrounds of the Accused

The arrested individuals have extensive criminal histories across multiple districts:

  • Narendra alias Virendra (40) faces 16 registered cases across Hisar and Rohtak districts, including charges of assault, theft, snatching, and fraud.
  • Sumit alias Dheela (31) has three cases of theft and snatching registered against him in Hisar district.
  • Balkishan (50) is involved in three cases related to robbery and fraud, and has been declared a proclaimed offender in Hisar district.
  • Deepak (22) faces a case of assault and criminal intimidation registered in Hansi.

Confessions and Legal Proceedings

During interrogation, all four accused admitted to regular drug abuse and involvement in various crimes including theft, snatching, and robbery. They specifically confessed to targeting elderly people because they could be easily engaged in conversation and were less likely to offer resistance.

The accused were produced before a court on Monday where Deepak was sent to judicial custody. Narendra, Balkishan, and Sumit were remanded to three days of police custody for further investigation.

Police officials emphasized that this arrest highlights the vulnerability of elderly citizens during morning walks and serves as a warning to other potential criminals targeting this demographic. The successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated police work combining surveillance, technical analysis, and human intelligence.
