Gurgaon Canteen Owner Murder: Cousin Arrested Over Old Rivalry
Police in Gurgaon have made an arrest in the shocking murder of a canteen owner. The victim, Sanjay Sharma, was shot dead near Rama Park. Authorities say the killing resulted from a long-standing dispute between cousins.
The Fatal Morning Attack
Sanjay Sharma, aged 50, operated a canteen opposite a private college in Sector 34. On Tuesday morning around 7:10 am, residents found him lying in a pool of blood outside his car. He had been shot at close range.
Police quickly identified the prime suspect as Baleshwar Sharma, the victim's 53-year-old maternal cousin. Baleshwar lives in Rampur, Dehradun. Officers arrested him for the murder.
Roots of the Family Feud
Investigators revealed that the cousins once ran a construction business together in Gurgaon. Their partnership ended badly. Sanjay accused Baleshwar of cheating him financially.
The conflict deepened over personal tragedy. Baleshwar's younger son died by suicide more than a year ago. Baleshwar blamed Sanjay for his son's extreme step. He nursed a bitter grudge from that moment.
How the Murder Unfolded
On January 6, Sanjay left his home for work as usual. The accused and his accomplices followed Sanjay's car. They rammed the vehicle from the side, forcing it to stop.
When Sanjay stepped out and recognized his cousin, the situation turned violent. The suspects tried to push Sanjay into their car. When they failed, one of them pulled out a gun.
The shooter fired a single bullet into Sanjay's head at point-blank range. The attackers then fled the scene, leaving Sanjay bleeding on the road. He died instantly.
Police Investigation Details
Multiple police teams formed to investigate the murder near Sector 37-D. Officers collected CCTV footage from the area. They are analyzing the videos to identify the other suspects involved in the attack.
Initially, the family did not name any suspects. Later, they raised suspicions about the cousin's role. They told police about a clash between two groups at Sanjay's canteen days before the murder. This altercation might be linked to the killing.
Police noted that Sanjay's Haryana-registered car showed no bloodstains inside. The vehicle had no visible damage either. A senior officer confirmed the attack happened outside the car.
A Planned Crime
Family members believe this was a premeditated murder. A relative told reporters that someone had chased Sanjay on December 25 as well. Sanjay had informed the police about that earlier incident.
"It was a planned murder," the relative stated. "Someone did a recce before committing the crime."
Based on a complaint from Sanjay's son Nikhil, police registered a murder case. They filed it under Section 103(1) of BNS at Sector 10 police station. The case initially named unidentified persons as accused.
The investigation continues as police work to apprehend all accomplices. The tragic story highlights how old family disputes can turn deadly.
