Gurgaon Hit-and-Run Claims Life of Scooterist, Second Fatality on Dwarka Expressway
A tragic hit-and-run accident in Gurgaon has resulted in the death of a 30-year-old scooterist, while a separate collision on Dwarka Expressway claimed another life, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns in the region.
Fatal Hit-and-Run Near IFFCO Chowk
In the early hours of Tuesday, a suspected hit-and-run incident near IFFCO Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway led to the death of Ambuj Sharma, a 31-year-old resident of Sukhrali village. According to the FIR filed at DLF Phase-II police station, Sharma worked as a helper at a supermarket in DLF Phase-III and was returning home after his night shift when the accident occurred.
Police reports indicate that the incident took place between 1 am and 2 am on the service road near a liquor warehouse close to IFFCO Chowk. Sharma was riding his scooter towards the Sukhrali flyover when an unidentified vehicle collided with him. The impact was severe, throwing him onto the road and causing critical injuries, while also damaging his two-wheeler. The driver responsible fled the scene immediately.
Passersby rushed Sharma to Max Hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment. Based on a complaint from his brother, authorities have registered an FIR under sections 281 (rash driving), 106 (causing death by negligence), and 324(4) (mischief causing loss or damage) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Separate Deadly Crash on Dwarka Expressway
In another distressing incident, a 32-year-old man, Jitendra Singh, lost his life after a trailer rammed into a tractor on Dwarka Expressway near Elan Mall on Sunday. Singh, who worked at an iron rod shop in Sector 103, was seated beside the driver, Shiv Kumar, when a 22-tyre trailer struck the tractor from behind.
The collision caused the tractor to overturn, and Jitendra fell onto the road, where he was subsequently run over by the truck. He was initially taken to Kathuria Hospital on Khandsa Road, but doctors declared him unfit to provide a statement. Due to financial constraints, his family moved him to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after a brief stay at Artemis Hospital in Sector 51, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
An FIR has been registered under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the BNS. Police are actively working to apprehend the truck driver and are examining CCTV footage from the stretch of Dwarka Expressway to gather more evidence.
Ongoing Investigations and Road Safety Concerns
These back-to-back fatalities have raised alarms about road safety in Gurgaon. Authorities are intensifying efforts to track down the perpetrators in both cases. The hit-and-run near IFFCO Chowk remains under investigation, with police scouring for clues to identify the fleeing vehicle.
Similarly, the Dwarka Expressway incident is being probed, with a focus on the trailer driver's actions. The use of CCTV footage is expected to play a crucial role in these investigations, as law enforcement seeks to bring justice to the victims' families.
These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers on Gurgaon's roads, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
