A Government Railway Police (GRP) head constable has been suspended with immediate effect after a disturbing video surfaced, allegedly showing him physically assaulting a young man with disabilities at Nagda railway station in Ujjain district. The swift action was taken by the Railway Superintendent of Police following a formal complaint accompanied by the viral video evidence.
Video Evidence Triggers Swift Suspension
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Tuesday morning on platform number 1 of Nagda railway station, came to light after a video clip began circulating widely on various social media platforms. The footage, which sparked public outrage, purportedly shows Head Constable Mansingh forcing the physically challenged youth to lie down on the platform before proceeding to kick and punch him.
Complaint Filed by BJP Leader Leads to Action
The formal complaint that set the disciplinary process in motion was filed by BJP leader Prakash Jain. Jain submitted the video evidence along with his written complaint to the authorities, highlighting the severity of the misconduct. Railway SP Indore Padma Vilochan Shukla received the complaint and acted promptly.
"Given the gravity of the situation, the Railway SP acted quickly to suspend the head constable," stated Jain, acknowledging the prompt response from the police leadership. The suspended officer, who was stationed at the GRP outpost in Nagda, has now been attached to the Railway Police Line in Indore pending further investigation.
Civil Society Voices Strong Objections
The video also drew strong condemnation from civil society members. Pankaj Maru, who heads an organisation named Sneh in the city, raised serious objections after viewing the footage. The public outcry and the formal complaint combined to ensure immediate administrative action was taken against the accused police personnel.
This incident has raised serious questions about police conduct and the treatment of vulnerable citizens in public spaces. The suspension serves as an immediate administrative measure, while a fuller investigation into the circumstances of the assault is expected to follow.
