Greater Noida Woman Strangled to Death After Rejecting Marriage Proposal

Police in Greater Noida have arrested a man for allegedly strangling a young woman to death. The tragic incident occurred after she rejected his marriage proposal. The victim was a 25-year-old call centre employee.

Body Found Near Residence

On Monday night, residents made a shocking discovery in Greater Noida's Beta 2 society. They found a woman's body under a parked car. The location was barely 50 metres from her own residence.

Police identified the victim as a woman who worked at a call centre in Noida's Sector 52. She originally came from Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh. She had moved to the Beta 2 society about one year ago with her 15-year-old brother.

"Her parents passed away earlier," officials confirmed. "She lived with her younger brother who studies in Class 7. Another brother works in Jaipur."

Family's Desperate Search

The woman's sister-in-law described the family's growing concern. "Around 3 am on Tuesday, I received a call from my brother-in-law," she said. "He told me she had not reached home. We thought she might have visited a friend."

By 7 am, when there was still no sign of her, the family began searching. The sister-in-law asked a relative living in Beta 2 society to look for the woman. That relative soon delivered the devastating news about the discovery of her body.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Noida Police launched an immediate investigation. They scanned CCTV footage from the area. This evidence led them to identify the suspect.

Late Tuesday night, police arrested 28-year-old Ankit Kumar. Officers apprehended him following a brief shootout. Kumar lives in Jaitpur village within Surajpur, Greater Noida. He runs a fruit shop near the woman's home and is a father of two children.

Motive Behind the Crime

According to police, Kumar confessed to the murder during questioning. "He claimed he came in contact with the woman when she visited his fruit shop," said Sudhir Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police for Greater Noida. "They had brief conversations. Kumar said he had fallen in love with her."

The ADCP explained further. "Kumar assumed she liked him too. He proposed marriage, but she refused. After her rejection, he began pressuring her to accept his proposal."

Final Confrontation

Police reconstructed the events of Tuesday. The woman had gone out to buy vegetables. As she walked back toward her home, Kumar followed her.

"He pressured her again about the proposal," the ADCP stated. "When she ignored him and continued walking, he became angry. He strangled her between two parked cars. Then he dragged her body under a car."

A neighbour found her body around 8 am on Monday. The location was just 50 metres from her residence.

Legal Proceedings and Aftermath

Police have registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Beta 2 police station. The woman's body underwent a post-mortem examination late Monday night. After the procedure, authorities handed the remains to her family.

The family conducted her cremation on Tuesday. Police are currently awaiting the final post-mortem report to complete their investigation.

This tragic case highlights the extreme violence that can follow when advances are rejected. It has shocked the Beta 2 community in Greater Noida. Residents are now calling for increased safety measures for women in the area.
