Woman Alleges Year-Long Ordeal of Deception, Dowry Demands, and Brutal Assault
The Bisrakh police in Greater Noida have registered a serious case following a complaint by a 33-year-old woman, Lavika Gupta, who has accused her husband and in-laws of a shocking series of deceptions, relentless dowry demands, and brutal physical and mental cruelty spanning over a year. The First Information Report (FIR) was filed on Sunday, January 4, 2026, under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, and multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Wedding Day Deception: Baldness and a Fake Degree
According to the police complaint, the foundation of Lavika Gupta's marriage to Sayam Jain, which took place on January 16, 2025, was built on lies. Before the wedding, Gupta's family was informed that the groom had thinning hair. However, on the wedding day itself, she discovered that Sayam Jain was completely bald and used a fake hair patch to conceal it.
The deception did not end there. After marriage, Gupta allegedly found that her husband had only passed Class 12, while his biodata falsely claimed he held a BCom degree. He also reportedly misrepresented his annual income as Rs 18 lakh. "In this way, I was seriously defrauded," Gupta stated in her complaint to the Bisrakh police.
Relentless Dowry Demands and Threats
The pressure for dowry began even before the wedding ceremony. Gupta told the police that her husband's family continuously forced her family to give a car as dowry. The family allegedly threatened to call off the marriage if the car was not provided. "Under this pressure, we had to give a car as a gift," Gupta stated.
The demands for cash continued as well. The family reportedly asked for and received approximately Rs 20 lakh in cash in several instalments, claiming the money was necessary for marriage expenses.
A Year of Blackmail, Assault, and Terror
Gupta's nightmare intensified from the second day of her marriage. She alleged that her husband began blackmailing her, claiming he had taken private pictures from her phone and would make them public if she did not comply with his demands.
The complaint details horrific physical abuse. Gupta stated she was brutally assaulted multiple times over the year, to the extent that she was pushed to the brink of taking her own life on several occasions. In one particularly harrowing instance, she alleged, "He put a country-made pistol to my head and said that if I told anyone, he would shoot me." She further described being dragged by her hair and kicked in the face.
Adding to her terror, the accused allegedly boasted of connections with high-ranking police and administration officers, threatening that any complaint filed by her would be dismissed and she would be framed in a false case.
Legal Action and Police Response
After enduring a year of this alleged torture, Lavika Gupta, a resident of Gaur City in Greater Noida, finally approached the Bisrakh police station. The police have acted promptly, lodging an FIR under stringent laws.
The charges invoked include sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act and specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita: 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt, 316(2) for criminal breach of trust, 351(3) for criminal intimidation, 352 for insult, and 85 for cruelty by husband and relatives.
This case highlights the severe and multifaceted nature of harassment some women face, involving not just dowry demands but also personal deception, blackmail, and extreme physical violence. The Bisrakh police are now investigating the serious allegations made in the complaint.
