Gorakhpur Police Crack Down on Gruesome Murder Case with Arrest of Three Accused
In a significant development, Gorakhpur police on Monday arrested a man, his wife, and his father-in-law in connection with the brutal murder of his former live-in partner. The victim's nude body was discovered under a bridge in PP Ganj on January 30, sending shockwaves through the community.
Details of the Crime and Investigation
The police revealed that the accused not only committed the murder but also mutilated the victim's face in an attempt to conceal her identity. Additionally, the primary suspect shaved his head and beard to avoid recognition. The victim has been identified as Priya Shetty, a 35-year-old resident of Mumbai, who was allegedly strangled by her boyfriend, Vijay Kumar Sahni.
After the murder, her body was stripped, and her face was smashed with bricks before being dumped approximately 20 feet below the Barghatta bridge. Alongside Vijay, his wife Sandhya and father-in-law Rambilas Sahni have also been implicated in this heinous crime.

According to Senior Police officials Gyanendra Prasad and Dinesh Puri, the investigation was propelled forward by critical CCTV footage and surveillance. An autorickshaw driver, who was captured on camera with the trio on the night of the crime, played a pivotal role in helping the police crack the case.
Background and Motive Behind the Murder
Vijay disclosed to the police that he had been in a relationship with Priya since 2012, and they had lived together in Mumbai, where they also had a son. After their separation, he married Sandhya in 2014. However, Priya later reconnected with him and began pressuring him to take her to his native place, threatening to cause public trouble if he refused.
On January 26, Vijay brought Priya and his wife from Mumbai to Gorakhpur. Following several days of drinking and traveling together, the trio arrived at PP Ganj on January 29. After arguments and heavy drinking escalated, Priya allegedly created a scene near the bridge, leading Vijay to strangle her with Sandhya's assistance. The accused then disposed of the body and made efforts to destroy any incriminating evidence.
Legal Proceedings and Current Status
All three individuals have been formally charged and sent to jail as the investigation continues. The police are conducting further inquiries to ensure all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined.
