A government school teacher in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur district has been arrested by police on serious charges of sexually harassing young girl students. The accused, identified as Nawal Kishore (56), was taken into custody on Wednesday evening following a formal complaint.
How the Harassment Came to Light
The disturbing incident was uncovered after students studying in Classes 3 and 4 at a primary school under the Belghat police station area confided in their parents. The children narrated a pattern of repeated harassment by the teacher.
According to the police, the accused teacher would call the girls individually to his desk, pretending to check their homework. Once alone, he would allegedly show them obscene videos and photographs stored on his mobile phone. The complaint further states that he would then proceed to touch the children inappropriately.
Threats and Intimidation Tactics
To ensure his actions remained hidden, the teacher reportedly used fear and intimidation. The young victims told authorities that Nawal Kishore threatened them with violence if they tried to resist his advances or dared to reveal the matter to anyone. This climate of fear initially kept the children silent.
However, the persistent nature of the harassment eventually led the girls to speak to their families, prompting immediate action from the parents.
Police Action and Community Demand
Following the parents' complaint, the police moved swiftly. SP South Dinesh Kumar confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in the case and the accused teacher has been arrested. The school in question has an enrolment of approximately 45 students.
The arrest has brought some relief, but it has also sparked serious concerns among parents and the local community. There is a strong and unified demand from parents for the authorities to take the strictest possible action to ensure such incidents do not recur and that the school environment is made completely safe for all children.
