A tragic incident in Gonda has highlighted the devastating consequences of alleged harassment and legal manipulation. A 25-year-old man, driven to despair by sustained blackmail and a false criminal case, died by suicide on Thursday evening, according to police officials.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Srivastava, a resident of the Gayatripuram locality. His family members discovered the grim scene and alerted the police. Officers arrived at the location and were forced to break open the locked door of his room. Inside, they found Abhishek's body hanging from the ceiling fan.
A critical piece of evidence was recovered from the room: a suicide note. In this note, Abhishek directly blamed a woman and her husband for his extreme decision. He accused them of betrayal, attempted extortion, and of sending him to jail by filing a false criminal case against him.
A Relationship Turned Sour
Based on accounts from family members, including his cousin Udbhav Srivastava, the chain of events began with a relationship. Abhishek was reportedly in a relationship with a married woman. The two communicated frequently via phone calls and chat messages.
The situation escalated when the woman's husband allegedly discovered the affair. He then began quarrelling with Abhishek. In September, the couple allegedly threatened to implicate Abhishek in a false case if he did not meet their demands. This threat materialized on September 28, when a case of criminal intimidation and extortion was registered against Abhishek at the city police station.
The police arrested him, produced him before a court, and he was subsequently sent to jail. Although he later secured bail and returned home, the harassment did not stop. His family alleges that the couple continued to make comments and exert pressure on him, leaving him with no peace.
Police Investigation and Evidence Collected
The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the suicide. An FIR has been registered against the woman and her husband under sections related to abetment of suicide. This action was taken based on the formal complaint filed by Udbhav Srivastava on Friday.
The forensic team was meticulous in its work, collecting fingerprint samples from various surfaces in the room, including the door, table, and bed. In a striking discovery, police found 32 printed screenshots of video calls and chat conversations between Abhishek and the woman pasted on the walls of his room.
These screenshots, along with the original suicide note, have been carefully photographed and seized as crucial evidence. City Kotwali Station House Officer Vivek Trivedi confirmed the developments, stating, "All aspects of the case are being investigated thoroughly."
The suicide note contained a poignant and final accusation. Abhishek wrote, "I am still being harassed. I no longer want to live. My death is the responsibility of these two." This statement now forms the core of the police case as they seek justice for the young man.
