Gold jewellery worth 8 sovereigns stolen in Trichy burglary

In a brazen theft, unidentified burglars made off with a significant quantity of gold jewellery from a locked residence in Trichy's KK Nagar. The incident, which saw the theft of eight sovereigns of gold, remained undetected for several days until the homeowner returned from an out-of-town visit.

Discovery of the Theft

The burglary came to light on Friday evening when the 58-year-old house owner, a resident of Khajamalai colony, returned to his home. He had locked up his house and left for his daughter's residence in Coimbatore on January 2. Upon his return, he was met with a distressing scene: the lock on his front door was broken.

Entering the house, he found it had been ransacked. The thieves had targeted steel almirahs (cupboards) inside the house. A thorough check revealed that several valuable items of gold jewellery were missing from their storage.

Valuables Stolen by the Burglars

The burglars executed a clean heist, taking a selection of precious ornaments. The stolen items included:

  • A gold chain
  • A gold necklace
  • Gold bangles
  • A gold ring

The total weight of the stolen gold jewellery was eight sovereigns, representing a substantial financial and sentimental loss for the victim.

Police Investigation Launched

Following the discovery, the distressed homeowner immediately approached the KK Nagar police to file a formal complaint. Law enforcement officials promptly registered a case and have initiated a detailed investigation into the break-in.

Police are now working to gather evidence from the scene, look for possible witnesses, and examine any available CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the culprits. The case highlights concerns about property crimes in residential areas, even when houses are securely locked.
