Shocking Animal Cruelty Case in Goa: Stray Dog Allegedly Set on Fire
In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, an unidentified individual allegedly set a stray dog on fire at an open ground in Camurlim, Mapusa, late on Saturday night, according to police reports. The brutal act of animal cruelty was discovered after the North Goa District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) received crucial information and promptly alerted the authorities.
Charred Body Found at the Scene
Upon reaching the location, SPCA officials and police personnel made a horrifying discovery: the animal's body was completely charred. The sight was described as deeply distressing by those present at the scene. Following this grim find, the SPCA formally lodged a complaint with the Colvale police station, initiating a formal investigation into the matter.
Investigation Points to Possible Premeditation
SPCA official Dexter Braganza provided insights into the possible circumstances surrounding the dog's death. It is suspected that the dog may have been killed at another location, with its body later burned to dispose of the evidence. Alternatively, the animal might have been set on fire directly at the spot where it was found. Police have registered the case and are actively pursuing further investigation to identify and apprehend the accused individual responsible for this heinous act.
Recent History of Animal Cruelty in the Area
This incident is not isolated. Recently, Colvale police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 64-year-old Dilip Khorjuvekar in connection with the killing of another stray dog in Camurlim. According to the complaint, on March 27, Khorjuvekar allegedly assaulted the dog with a baton and later abandoned it in the river near the Camurlim jetty, leading to its tragic death. This pattern of violence against stray animals has raised serious concerns among local residents and animal welfare organizations.
The community is now calling for stricter enforcement of animal protection laws and heightened vigilance to prevent such atrocities in the future. As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring the perpetrator to justice.
