SALEM: An eight-year-old schoolgirl tragically lost her life after being run over by a van near Ladies Seat in Yercaud on Friday morning. The deceased has been identified as Menaka, daughter of Krishnan of Valavanthi. She was a Class III student at Mundagapadi Government School.

Details of the Incident

According to police sources, Menaka regularly traveled from her home in a private van to the Ladies Seat area, where she would alight and board a bus to reach her school. The van was owned and driven by Ranganathan of Keeraikaadu.

On Friday morning, Menaka got down from the van near Ladies Seat and attempted to cross the road in front of the vehicle. Driver Ranganathan moved the van without noticing her. “The vehicle’s wheel ran over the child,” said an officer at the Yercaud police station.

Medical Response and Investigation

She was immediately rushed to the Government Hospital in Yercaud, where doctors examined her and declared her dead on arrival. The Yercaud police have registered a case and initiated investigations into the incident.
